Well, we’ve finally done it!
The St. Andrew Society has reached its first goal milestone of $100,000. As of
today, the Heritage Fund total sits at $102,723.
Founded in 2010 the Heritage Fun is an endowment on which the SASC can one day
rely to help fund its many activities, support its auxiliary groups, develop more programs
to benefit its members and present Scottish heritage, culture and contributions to the
general public.
The fund was ‘seeded’ by a small group of members who each donated $1,000 or more
to get the fund off the ground. It’s Charter stated that the fund would be deposited in a
Trust, and that no funds would be withdrawn until it reached an initial minimum
threshold of $100,000. After that milestone, 3% of the fund, or 50% of the net growth in
value of the fund, could be distributed to the general coffers of the SASC to support its
many activities. By establishing a minimum threshold and only allowing a portion of the
growth in the Trust to be distributed each year, the Fund is guaranteed to continue to
grow and never be depleted. Given time and compounded growth, it is feasible that one
day, the Fund could grow to the point of being the primary source of funding of the
Society and ensure its continuation into perpetuity.
The SASC Heritage Fund in held in an irrevocable Trust with the Colorado Gives
Foundation (CFG), a public charity 501(c)(3) foundation that makes grants, provides
support services and connects donors with non-profits and also runs the giving platform
Colorado Gives and Colorado Gives Day. Along with managing endowments for 130
non-profits totaling over $500million. The CFG holds the National Standards
Accreditation Seal and has a 100% score and Four-Star rating with Charity Navigator.
This relationship ensures the integrity of the fund, that its use will be only for the
intended purposes, and that the fund will continue to grow and benefit the Society for
generations to come.
We are thrilled that the Fund has met this initial milestone and want to give a heart-felt
thanks to those founding Heritage Fund Charter members; our many donors, both large
and small; the generosity of our members; and those many members who have worked
so hard to bring us to this point in time.
We will of course, continue to solicit donations and work to help our Heritage Fund
continue to grow and benefit us all. Please refer to the Heritage Fund tab on our
website to learn how you can help.
Again, a heartfelt “Thank You”, and congratulations to us all.
Cheers,
Larry Hay
