Scotland in our own backyard
One of our missions here at SASC is to be a community hub for all things Scottish in Colorado. Help us in building our network and connections.
Rocky Mountain Highland Dance

RMHD creates and encourages the expression of the ethnic history and dances of Scotland through workshops and competitions. RMHD dancers perform at Society functions and throughout Colorado. Individual dancers compete in highland dancing at Highland Games, festivals, and competitions around the U.S. and Canada. RMHD’s funds are used to help with these travels, as well as to bring in out-of-state instructors for workshops. Dancers are available for highland dance instruction and performances.
Colorado Tartan Festival

President Woodrow Wilson said, “Every line of strength in American history is a line covered with Scottish blood.” From Dr. Benjamin Waterhouse, who was the only doctor among the founders of Harvard Medical school, to the famous musician Johnny Cash, Scottish Americans are woven into the fabric of American culture. These contributions are the reason the Congresses of the United States and the State of Colorado set aside April 6th as a day of recognition. The Colorado Tartan Day Council (CTDC) was formed for the sole purpose of ensuring that this day is honored and celebrated. Thus, CTDC festivities are held in April. Scottish Country Dance of Colorado

Scottish Country Dancers of Colorado meet weekly at various front range locations to learn and enjoy the social dancing of Scotland (the predecessor to American square dancing). The demonstration team performs at Society functions, as well as other Scottish events around Colorado. Beginners are welcome and no partner is needed to dance at the classes. See the Weekly Classes listing for more details of classes and events at
RenScots

The Renaissance Scots Living History Association, a 501 (c) 3 educational nonprofit corporation, has been delighting attendees at Celtic events in the Rocky Mountain West for more than 25 years. The RenScots provide a village setting where the public experiences highland Scottish life and crafts from the time of William Wallace (Braveheart) through the Jacobite uprising against the English that ended so disastrously for the Scots on the battlefield of Culloden in 1745.
